Detailing is a aged language driven from french meaning " to cut to pieces" while in todays society is often used to describe merticulus cleaning. The word become about the industry in early 1900’s when cleaning and applying animal fats to slow paint fading was much larger challenge. 

What is paint correction vs detailing?
Paint correction is the new age term as of mid 2000’s used by cleaning industry professionals from old language cut and polish or buff. Detailing is cleaning while paint correction is act of smoothing the paint hills and valleys in one, two or three actions/motions . Paint correction 1 step is going over the paint with one pad to enhance the paint, lightly remove oxidization and some contamination not all. A 2-step correction is one heavy compounding step to remove most scratches and defects with two seperate pads and products removing 80-90% of that defects. A 3 step correction is the suit case, this involves going over the paint three different times with three seperate pads and varying in hardness and product to remove 95% or greater defects with one compound, one polish and a finish or glaze product. Todays industry professionals most have products that can take a two step results with one step labor as products have advanced since beginning of time vastly and todays technology allows us to do more in less time.

What is Compound vs Polish?
A compound was used to describe very gritty and agressive product that removed and aggressivly flatten the paint surface by removing sharp edges around valley in paint. Polish is term used to describe smooth or soft abbrasion process removing defects and minor scratches in the paint surface often containing protective products to slow older paint technologies like laquer and single stage failure. 

Detailing has seen many developments since its origination with animal fats used to protect painted surfaces, todays products available are chemically tested designed from plant based oils and solutions designed for many challenges no matter where you live, whether thats next to the ocean dealing with chemical attack or living next to field where sand, dust and physical abrasion is damages your aircraft value and personal time.
